Gigabyte Introduces the First 790GX Mainboard
Via press release Gigabyte introduced the MA790GP-DS4H with the 790GX chipset for AM2(+) processors. According to Gigabyte it offers more power relating to integrated graphics performance and overclocking potential.
The integrated graphics unit Radeon HD 3300 is said to have a dedicated Sideport memory sized to 129 MiByte. The DDR3 chip is clocked to 1,333 MHz and is said to increase the graphics performance by about 15 percent. The predecessor 780G with the Radeon HD 3200 supports Sideport, too, but up to now no one released a 780G board with additional memory. Furthermore Gigabyte says that the onboard graphics chip of the 790GX can be overclocked to more than 1.000 MHz and thus can reach more than 2,800 points in 3DMark 06.
Due to Hybrid Crossfire support, the integrated Radeon HD 3300 can be combined with a discrete graphics card. Furthermore the board is said to dupport Crossfire X with two units of eight PCI-E lanes. While some 780G boards had problems with 124 watt CPUs, Gigabyte guarantees that the MA790GP-DS4H supports even 140 watt CPUs.
